The exhibition title, datik, is an invented word derived from the words datum, datu and batik. Datum refers to a piece of information; datu is a title which denotes the ancient rulers of numerous indigenous peoples throughout the Philippines; and batik is a method of producing colored designs on textiles using a wax-resist method. Casis conceived this word to provide a glimpse into her creative process.
